The Parque Natural da Arrábida (PNA) was created in 1976 on account of its ecological, historical and landscape value. Resource exploitation started from top to bottom, leaving a group of terraces from the top available for revegetation. Quarry recovery started in 1982 and aimed to recreate the natural habitats surrounding the quarry, which are dominated by Mediterranean vegetation, using native species and promoting natural conditions for fauna occupation.

The main objective is to manage and promote fauna occupation associated with the landscape restoration in progress since 1982. The measures proposed intend to influence the identified limiting factors, which in turn influence the abundance and diversity of species, promoting a balance between flora and fauna.

Lafarge's Gaillon quarry is located on the terraces of the Seine River 80 kilometers west of Paris, France and about 500 meters from the river bed. The oceanic climate and alluvial terraces are typical of the Seine valley river, where aggregates have been extracted for 40 years. The company aims to re-establish the acidic grassland after quarry restoration.

The Cha-am quarry (Khao Tom wou and Khao Mun moo) is located in Thailand 's Cha-am district in Petchburi province. The Cha-am quarry has become a key participant in the King's Project, which started in 1996 to maintain and increase the native biodiversity and preserve the area of Khao Nang Panturat as a national park with tourist areas and a nature observation center.

Los Arenales limestone quarry is situated in the Mijas township on the western coast of Malaga province, in Andalusia, Spain. The first aim of the restoration work carried out in Los Arenales quarry was to reproduce the surrounding Mediterranean woodland.

The Sitapuram limestone mine is a captive mechanized open cast mine operated by Zuari Cement Ltd (part of Italcementi Group). It is located at Dondapadu, in Nalgonda District, in southeastern India.

The abandoned Drenaka-East quarry is located in the Devnya Municipality area called Koriata. It is 2.5 kilometers North-East of Povelyanovo and about 15.5 kilometers West of Varna in northeastern Bulgaria. The 62-acre forest was removed for the extraction of 47,000 cubic meters of quartz sand. Extraction finished in 2006.

Exploited by CEMEX from 1973 to 1990, the Chambeon aggregate quarry is located in the Forez plain, in the Loire department of southeastern France. Four million tonnes of aggregates were extracted. The operated and restored surface is 45 hectares and the water surface is 33 hectares.

The Santa Maria Conservation Program, which CEMEX has been developing since 1995, is located in the northern semi-arid region of Mexico, along the eastern slope of the Sierra Madre Oriental (Sierra Pajaros Azules). First focused on reforestation, CEMEX's rehabilitation approach was changed in 2008 to be more integrated and methodological, with targets based on the knowledge of local biodiversity issues
